I2m with Cubase 7.5 Artist

Post by bwu805 »

Hey,

I feel like I must be missing something really obvious, because I don't see other people having this problem on this forum. but I can't get pitch bend to work on my i2m music port. The DAW I'm using is Cubase 7.5 artist I have the instrument set to 'Voice/Wind, and the configuration set to
Gate: G2-A5 (my i2m is currently connected to a viola tuned down a P4)
Hold: on
Pitch mode: pitch bend, 12
Trans: 0
Constrainer: off
Note extend: off

I have an iRig also connected to my computer, my computer seems to be reading the pitch bend data from the pitch wheel of that device just fine. It's really just the i2m that isn't registering the pitch bend.

Check the obvious:

Is the MIDI configuration (a, b, c, d) on the mode (preset) you are using, set to be the same one you have set pitch-bend to? It's not simply set to a MIDI configuration that's in chromatic mode?

If you still have problems, use Save All on the editor and post your file here for us to look at.

The preset it set to A. As far as I can tell I have the settings here correct.

I agree, the settings look correct.

Are you using a MIDI controller to activate the hold function? This wouldn't affect just pitch-bend, but would stop all MIDI output when hold is active. You could try turning off hold, but I don't expect it to help.

Does the MIDI output indicator on the i2M editor show any activity when you bend a note (i.e., a note is being held and you apply bend/vibrato). You should see no activity when chromatic mode is enabled, and activity when pitch-bend mode is enabled. This might give a clue as to whether the i2M is sending pitch-bend data or not.

Are you using the latest version of the editor and i2M firmware?

By 'output indicator' are you referring to what looks like 3 flashing lights on the bottom of the window? Whether I was, or was not in pitch bend mode, the left and the right light lit up when I played something, the middle light did not. Turning the hold off didn't seem to do anything for me either.

my firmware version is 1.3.02
hardware version: 1.42.02
desktop version: 1.3.03

having just checked the site, at least my firmware and desktop version should be up to date.

The right-hand flashing light is the MIDI output (it has an "out" arrow on it).

Can you try a MIDI monitor program to see what MIDI messages the i2M is sending out? I believe this one will work:

Thanks. Here's a screenshot of what I got. as I glissando upwards it does seem like the number on the right goes up correspondingly. Still nothing from cubase though.

OK. The good news is the i2M is working as you want it to, and is sending pitch-bend.

Now you need to work out why Cubase isn't responding. Is the synth set to respond to pitch-bend? Is some kind of quantisation set in Cubase so it is ignoring pitch-bend?
