Cannot Hear VST When i2M/Ableton Is Connected

Post by mogruith »

Hi Folks

So long has it been since I used my i2M that I have forgotten the details of how to get it working within Ableton Live Lite.

Can anyone please help me out, my DAW Audio recognizes the ASIO/i2M and when connected and using a VST I am seeing a signal but for the
life of me I'm getting no sound,

No doubt I am missing something obvious, would be great to have some help on this. Thanks

In the i2M ASIO driver, you can select a "chained output". Open to the ASIO control panel from Live and you'll get the i2M ASIO control panel. Choose a driver to use as the chained output and configure it. Hopefully this is all you need to do.

Hi, thanks for your helpful reply, progress after following those steps. But only hearing the guitar, despite the fact I have a Bass VST selected in the midi channel.

Hearing the guitar is good progress.

Is the MIDI instrument receiving MIDI? You probably need to assign a MIDI input to that channel. Have you selected the i2M as a MIDI input device in Live? Do you get any metering on the MIDI instrument channel to indicate that it's playing something?

Hi James, Thanks for your response<

In Ableton Live preferences are set to ASIO driver > i2M musicport ASIO

I loaded a VST into a Midi channel. The signal from my guitar is noticeable ONLY on a few notes on the top E. The signal meanwhile, without playing any notes is actively flickering.

I still am only hearing guitar and not the VST 'voice'

Try using the "Latency Test Mode" of the i2M to try and work out what's wrong.

To do this, use the i2M editor and select Latency Test Mode from the setup tab. In this mode, the i2M will flash the Sonuus logo and at the same time it will send a MIDI note (middle C). You can use this mode to check where MIDI is being sent, and it avoids any problems with setup of the guitar-to-MIDI conversion.

Try recording MIDI in Ableton Live to see if it gets recorded.

I'll try that James.

Meanwhile I did note that the SONNUS logo on the device is already flashing green when connected up to my laptop

The logo flashing green just means it's on that particular preset. There are 4 presets. Here's a summary (with factory preset shown):

(1) green solid (guitar)
(2) green flashing (guitar chromatic)
(3) orange solid (bass)
(4) orange flashing (bass chromatic)

You can edit these in the i2M editor.
