Voluum Version 1.3.2 (pre-release testing)

Post by james »

Version 1.3.2 is an update from the previous beta-test, version 1.3.1. See the thread for that release for details on what the firmware contains:
viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1567

This update contains a minor bug-fix and a few more features.

Bug fix

() When the Voluum is set to "Preset Bypass" it was not possible to select which preset should be used in bypass mode. This was an editor problem and is now fixed.

Improvements

() The editor was sometimes getting more than one copy of the the same information from the Voluum (setlist things). This should now be done only once to speed up startup and preset selection. We are not aware of any side-effects, but please check to see if you notice anything strange with setlists compared to the previous editor/firmware.

New features

() Expression controller (global) can be set to off, so the pedal won't send MIDI messages. This can then be overridden in the preset to only send MIDI for those presets where you want it to be sent.

() LFO speed in fast mode is not limited, so maximum speed is now much faster (4kHz!) The analogue hardware will struggle to get to that speed, so the depth of the LFO will get reduced as the speed gets high. However, this faster speed lets you do some interesting things!

() Allow "attack" in volume ADSR mode to be pedal-controlled. Now attack has a "hi" and "lo" parameters. To use it like before (no pedal control) you need to set the lo and hi to the same value (press and hold the hi/lo button on the Voluum when adjusting the parameter to do this from the control panel).

() The MIDI output from the LFO can now be limited to the MIDI "range" you set on the preset. This gives more control over the MIDI being sent from the LFO.

() You can now prevent the Voluum from sending any MIDI when the effect is bypassed (MIDI tab, "send MIDI when bypassed" option).

() New "heel-down mute" option added to the Volume effect when in pedal- and MIDI-controlled modes. This lets you select the volume response curve you want, but force volume to be full off when the pedal is in the heel-down position. It lets you be creative without sacrificing control when you want the option to fully-mute the signal.

Hi James,

I did a quick test. The editor runs smoothly without any issue. I love the LFO fast mode going up to 4kHz . Many crazy effects in there. Voluum is the ultimate volume processor and beyond it. Thank you!

I would like to control the LFO effect parameters by the LFO (e.g. controlling the LFO speed by its own wave or by the LFO 2). Is it possible to use LFO MIDI messages to control the LFO effect parameters?

I am pleased the faster LFO is working for you :-)

Modulation from it's own modulation... that's interesting, but will need to wait for the next update. The current update is just being released today.

This update has now been formally release as version 1.5.0 and is available from the download page: http://software.sonuus.com

There are two fixes added, one of them may cause problems with your existing user presets -- so please be aware of this:

(1) The per-preset MIDI range for expression (defaults to 0-127) was not handled correctly for user presets (it would appear as 0-0, not 0-127). This is now fixed, but any user presets saved using one of the beta firmware versions may have stored this value incorrectly -- so please check this on your user presets to make sure the value is set at what you want it to be.

(2) The editor wouldn't properly skip unavailable user-presets, making the up/down buttons not work correctly. This is now fixed, so the up/down buttons work the same way as they do on the Voluum itself -- i.e., unavailable user-presets are skipped.
