configuration Options switches confusion

Post by poofish »

I'm feeling pretty thick at the moment. When i look into the battery compartment the row of switches are numbered 1 to 8 which is all good. However, I want to optimise the config to guitar and when i follow the instructions the actual image of the switch in the instructions is confusing. Is the photo included showing the right set up for guitar? All the switches are down.

Yes, you have your set up correctly:

For guitar, keep Switches 1 and 2 down (so OFF). The sticker on the back of the battery compartment can deff be a little confusing. Black is the position of the switch, whereas White is the absence of the switch (think it as if it is empty space, not being colored in, because the sticker's background is white)....And YES the actual switches themselves are white, so I can understand the confusion.

Oh and since you are playing guitar, you should usually keep the "CHROMATIC" switch (On the side of the G2M near the Input jack) switched to the LEFT (off). This will allow you to have nice pitch bends, it'll sound more natural if your synth or whatever isn't something like an electric piano. If you have the "CHROMATIC" switch moved to the RIGHT (on), then doing vibrato on the guitar will sound like a trill between two notes, which can sound cool, but I prefer the smoothness of having "CHROMATIC" OFF (to the LEFT).

Let me use binary to help you read the battery door sticker (1 mean on, so UP and 0 means off/down *X means the switch doesn't matter).

Guitar
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
0 0 X X X X X X

4 String Bass
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
0 1 X X X X X X

5 String Bass (low B)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
1 0 X X X X X X

Voice
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
1 1 X X X X X X
----------------------------------------------------------

MIDI Output on Channel #1
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

MIDI Output on Channel #2

MIDI Output on Channel #3
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

MIDI Output on Channel #4

Pitch Bend +/-2 Semitones (14-Bit)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
X X X X 0 0 X X

Pitch Bend +/-5 Semitones (14-Bit)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
X X X X 0 1 X X

Pitch Bend +/-12 Semitones (14-Bit)

Pitch Bend +/-36 Semitones (14-Bit)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
X X X X 1 1 X X

---------------------------

MIDI Input on Channel 1
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
X X X X X X 0 X

MIDI Input on Channel Omni (I'm guessing this means the G2M will listen for any MIDI input signal, I don't know the pros or cons of this)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
X X X X X X 1 X

---------------------------

Power Save mode On (it will auto shutdown after 30 minutes of no sound)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
X X X X X X X 0

Power Save mode Off (A great way to drain a battery)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
X X X X X X X 1
