MIDI powered G2M?

Postby jammer » Mon Jan 03, 2011 4:05 am

currently the G2M can cable power to downstream MIDI devices through MIDI out, but is the reverse true?
can a G2M receive its power connected to a downstream device that has a power supply?
sure would be cool if the G2M was MIDI powered 8-)

Please see this post about the B2M (the same applies to the G2M): viewtopic.php?f=16&t=379

You can't power the B2M via the MIDI port. As specified in the MIDI standard, a MIDI-out port provides a 5V power supply to the MIDI receiver (MIDI In). The receiver uses this power to drive it's receiving circuitry. Only a small small amount of current can be supplied, but there are some devices which can be powered with this, such as MIDI mergers.

Since the B2M only has a MIDI out, it supplies power, it cannot be powered from MIDI (it has no MIDI-in).
