All, I have the sonuus i2M and wish to connect it to a Roland SH201 via USB. How do I do this without a computer and how do I do it with one?

Newbie to all this so please be patient with me.

thanks

ian

The Roland SH201 has a USB device connection, not a USB host connection. So you can connect the SH201 to a computer, but you can't connect another USB device to the SH201.

You can connect the i2M to it using 5-pin MIDI, if you have a device like this one:

I have one here and can confirm it works great with the i2M.

So perhaps I should've bought the G2M and plugged it directly to the midi in on the Synth?

Yes, the G2M would be a lot easier!

However, the i2M gives you more options, particularly for theremin. You can set different pitch-bend ranges (the G2M is fixed to +/-2 semitones), and you can quantise notes to musical scales, so it makes playing synths much easier.

FYI: Tim Blake from Hawkwind uses the i2M with his Theremin on stage.

I don't suppose you know whether he uses a synth (which one) or PC software?

Got it working...just turns out adding MIDI devices in Reason, especially for an amateur such as myself, doesn't appear to be as straight forward as in other DAW's...
essentially I've found you have to add it as a control surface, rather than as a Sync in a bus slot ; so once I set up the i2m as a general MIDI keyboard without controls (there are other choices but I would really need to dig around to use the ones that seem more fitting) it started to register the actual 'hits' in the sequencer.
