Just purchased a Sonuus i2M musicport. Would it be possible to connect the USB out to the USB in of a Kenton MIDI USB Host MKII (it's powered) and then connect the MIDI out of the Kenton to the MIDI in of an old synth? Here is Kenton's page:

Yes. This works very well.

As an aside, the Kenton USB MIDI Host also works well with the Sonuus Wahoo pedal to give it 5-pin MIDI capability.
