Voluum compression hacking?

Post by niftyprose »

Hello guys, this is actually a pre-sales query but I figured your response might be of interest to existing users.

I'm intrigued by the Voluum's ability to assign compression parameters to the pedal. I know that the compression level can be varied through the pedal, which strikes me as a great idea.

I'm also a fan of lo-fi compression of the type that used to be implemented in Portastudios and various Roland boxes. There've been a number of software emulations recently, but the only hardware box I'm aware of is DigDugDiy's Purple Rain (https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1491548597624197 ).

Is the Voluum's compression implemented digitally? If so, could a savvy user hack together a lo-fi compression algorithm, ideally one capable of changing 'lo-finess' on the fly in response to the pedal setting?

Best, NP
