External footswitch for Voluum.

Hi!
Im about to get a external 2 momentary button footswich built for my Voluum.
The footswitch will act as a interface, passing midi out on to my HX Stomp for expression over midi.
Ive seen you suggest a custom made cable for this sort of thing.
I just whant to know if there will be any issue for me using the footswitch as the interface insted?
Chain will look like this:
Voluum - midi out -
External footswitch - midi jack in on one side of the pedal - switches connected as shown in the Voluum’s manual - midi jack out/through on the other side of pedal -
HX Stomp - midi in
Will this work or should I rethink the setup?
