...I mean if Iran can have nuclear weapons .... can't we entice some of their scientists to find a way to switch midi channels on this thing without having to buy some over priced gadget from,MIDI solutions

You need something like this:
MIDI Solutions Footswitch Controller. This will allow you to 'rechannelize'.

You could try the free midi-ox software to re transmit the incoming channel 1 midi signal from the G2M to a channel of your choice.
Not much help if you want to use it live though.
