Mic recommendations?

Post by snowfall »

First off, great product! The i2m tracking is fast, and on the audio side, I'm able to get the buffer down to 64 samples, which is better than my line6 gx, and thats just using asio4all. I've started to play around with a mic into the i2m just for kicks -- freaky, but cool! Right now, I'm running my mic (a shure PG58) into a preamp first. If I just go straight to the i2m with a low/hiZ adapter, the signal isn't strong enough, even with the gain at 15db in the i2m editor. Have you (or anyone else on this board) had success running a mic straight into the i2m, and if so, what brand/model(s)?

For MIDI tracking, you can often still get good results even if the signal level is a bit low, so most dynamic mics can be used.

For good quality audio, you might need a more powerful mic, or external preamp to optimise the signal level and use all of the available dynamic range.
