Power LED

HI this is my first post here. I just got a new GM2 Question;
Is the green power LED remain on all the time a battery is inside the GM2?
I haven had a chance to plug it in yet. I figured the light would engage when the input is jacked.
But it just stays on all the time. Is that how it is suppose to work?
